5 top tips to improve diversity in your classroom - in under 60 seconds.

Diversify your classroom… with our five top tips.

  1. Create an inclusive culture of dignity, human rights and respect. Where everybody is accepted and staff and students are treated fairly and equally.

  2. Take a lead on addressing inequality. Challenge negative attitudes and avoid stereotypes at all costs. Avoid phrases like ‘boys will be boys’ or ‘hey I need two strong lads to help me move a desk’ - it might come as a shock but other people can carry desks too.

  3. Celebrate diversity in all its forms. And not just on awareness days! Diverse groups exist every day not just when you feel like popping a poster up.

  4. Include diverse learning materials into your teaching by taking advantage of free resources available online and learn about organisations doing great work - like us!

  5. If you are in a leadership position - hire diversity to better reflect the diverse community that you serve.

The most important thing is to do nothing for fear of getting it wrong.
